Whew! Can’t believe it’s that time of year again!
Chuck Jone’s Red Dot Auction is here!
This year I went in a different direction with my piece. I was going to revisit ‘Albuquerque Girl’, but I went through a few sketches and just wasn’t feeling it.
Then, somewhere between awake and asleep, I envisioned a pose to draw— it was simple, relaxed, and included a record player. I was digging the retro chill vibes of the idea. I was further inspired by this cute cats and coffee calendar we got this year that has a limited color palette and retro inked aesthetic. (link)
As I was sketching it out, though, I was trying to figure what could I do with the drawing. hmmmm… I still needed a Red Dot piece… but how to incorporate Looney Tunes?
Then, as I was pulling references for the record player, it hit me: records and wall art are a match made in heaven. A quick google for vintage looney tune pics later, I had two pieces to make into wall art in the background, and I couldn’t resist adding one of my own pieces from last year as well, and viola!
I love the vintage feel of this piece, and much like the concept of ‘Albuquerque Girl’, it serves as an art piece that’s also a love note to Looney Tunes.
